How to Use the Coravin Timeless Wine Preservation System
How Coravin Timeless Systems Work
What is a Coravin Timeless Wine Preservation System?
Coravin Timeless Wine Preservation Systems allow you to pour wine from a bottle without removing the cork. Whether you want a sip, a glass, or more, your last glass will always taste just as amazing as your first - even weeks, months, or years later. Coravin has also developed a Timeless Screw Cap accessory that enables wine lovers to enjoy and preserve bottles sealed with a screw cap for up to three months.
Coravin Timeless Wine Preservation Systems include Model Three, Model Five, Model Six, Model Eleven, Timeless Three, Timeless Six, etc.
How do Coravin Timeless Wine Preservation Systems work?
The Coravin Timeless Wine Preservation System is easy to use - just insert, tip, and pour. Place the Coravin Timeless System on top of the bottle and push the Needle through the cork. Coravin Timeless Systems work on all cork-sealed, still wines. Tip the bottle as if you are pouring from an open bottle. Quickly press the trigger to pressurize the bottle. Release the trigger to pour into your glass. For the Timeless Eleven just tilt and pour. Tip the bottle back up to stop the pour. Remove the Needle by pulling the system straight up. The cork will reseal naturally and continue to protect your wine for weeks, months, or even years.
How are Coravin Timeless Systems different from other wine preservation options?
Other wine preservation systems require the cork to be pulled. This allows oxygen to mix with the wine and starts the process of oxidation. Coravin Timeless Systems pour wine without removing the cork, so oxygen never touches the wine in the bottle, allowing it to stay protected for months and years.
Coravin also offers the Pivot™ Wine Preservation System, which allows you to extend the life of your everyday wines. For bottles you expect to finish over the course of days or weeks, the ingenious combination of the Pivot Stopper and the Device keeps the remaining wine fresh for up to 4 weeks ensuring the last glass is just as amazing as the first.
What testing has been done to prove that the Coravin Timeless System actually works?
Coravin routinely conducts blind taste tests with wine professionals of bottles previously accessed with the Coravin Timeless System against control bottles from the same case. Over 500 wine professionals have participated in these tastings. They have not been able to distinguish between previously accessed bottles and untouched controls. Watch the Coravin 3 Year Blind Tasting video here. Leading restaurants around the world now trust their wine by the glass program to the Coravin Timeless System.
How long does the wine last?
When the Coravin Timeless System is used correctly, the wine in the bottle continues to evolve in the same way as if the System was never used.

Difficulty Pouring
I’m trying to pour with my Coravin Timeless System but nothing is coming out. What do I do?
There are several items to check if you are having trouble pouring wine. Remove the Coravin Timeless System from the bottle and give the trigger a quick press. If you hear gas escaping, then you have gas and the Needle is clear — the problem is likely that the Coravin System was not fully seated on the bottle and the Needle had not penetrated the closure.
If you do NOT hear gas escaping after a quick press of the trigger, you may simply be out of gas, or your Needle may be clogged with some cork particles. To check for a clogged Needle, unscrew the Needle from the Coravin System and then try a quick press of the trigger again. If you hear gas flow, then it is likely that your needle is clogged by some small cork particles. Please refer to Clearing a Clogged Needle or click here to watch our instructional video.
If you do NOT hear gas with the needle removed, then you are likely out of gas and need a new Coravin Capsule.
If none of these remedies work, please contact Customer Service.
Leaking Problems
While pouring with the Coravin Timeless System, I notice that wine leaks from the System or the cork. Why?
1. A loose Needle could cause some leaking or dripping while pouring. Please ensure that the Needle is tightly attached to the Coravin System. You can check this by turning the Needle grip counter-clockwise until there is no more give to the turn.
2. If you have previously accessed the bottle, the most likely reason that a cork will leak is that you have used the Coravin Timeless System with a synthetic closure. Although this will not damage the Coravin Needle, and will still allow you to pour wine, the cork will not reseal, and oxidation will occur over time. If you have accessed a bottle with a synthetic closure, store it upright.
3. If you are accessing a bottle with a natural cork that is below room temperature or chilled, the cork will take a bit longer to reseal. This does not mean that oxygen is entering the bottle during the resealing process, the argon in the bottle is still protecting your wine.
4. It is possible that a small amount of residual wine in the Coravin Needle pooled in between the cork and the foil upon removal of the System from the bottle. This excess wine can sometimes leak from underneath the foil even though the cork has fully resealed.
5. If you access a bottle with a natural cork in poor condition, it is possible that it will not reseal fully and leak.
After pouring I notice that wine is leaking from the top of the Coravin or the cork. Why?
This is the result of residual wine from the Needle and the Needle path in the cork that settles to the top of the cork and will cause some dripping. It is a normal circumstance. If you notice a steady stream of wine however that is an indication that the wine is bottled with a synthetic cork that will not reseal.
Insertion & Removal Difficulties
It is becoming difficult to insert and remove the Coravin Timeless System from wine bottles. What should I do?
Over time, if your System becomes difficult to push through the closure, the coating on the Needle may be worn. Inspect the tip to look for wear or damage. If the non-stick coating has worn off, leaving a silver color rather than black, you may need a new needle. Replacement Needles can be ordered here.
Foam & Cloudiness
Why does the wine seem to foam when I am pouring with my Coravin Timeless System?
Make sure that the bottle is tilted so that the spout is lower than the bottle's base, and that the needle tip in the bottle is always submerged in wine. If the needle tip is not submerged, a mix of argon and wine will flow out of the bottle causing excessive foam. For the optimal pour, pour along the inside edge of the glass, as this reduces splash and bubbles in the wine.
When I pour with my Coravin Timeless System I sometimes see a cloud form in the bottle. Why is this?
When you are done pouring and tilt the bottle back upright, the inside of the bottle goes from high to low pressure which can create a cloud that will quickly dissipate. This is normal and does not affect the remaining wine.
System Gas Issues
My Coravin Timeless System does not seem to hold gas very long. What should I do?
Please ensure that you are tightening the Capsule Cup as quickly and firmly onto the System as possible; there should be no more give left to the cup. If the cup is not twisted on tightly enough, it may not seal fully, allowing argon gas to escape from the Coravin System.
Also, be sure that you use only enough gas for the pour that you want. If, when you finish your pour and bring the bottle back to an upright position, you hear a long release of gas then you may have used too much gas for the pour that you want; the gas just releases into the air and is wasted. At the end of your pour you should hear only a slight “psst” of gas if you hear anything at all. We recommend using several short presses of the trigger to control your pour and optimize your gas.
